Interior and Portrait Series:

I’m fascinated by people and their interior / exterior spaces i.e. what they value, collect, and choose to surround themselves with in those private spaces and how the objects are a reflection of who they are.

I have been working on my Interior & Portrait Series since 2013. My process is to visit the home of a participant, to look at their surroundings and to paint 2 or more paintings based on that visit. The first painting is a portrait; the second companion piece or pieces show the interior without the individual. The subjects allow me free access to their home, most of them strangers to me. I sketch, photograph, and make a video interview with them in their surroundings. From that visit, I take the reference materials back to my studio to see what can become a painting.
